Patagonia III: Bariloche, the Alps of South America

This is a city located in the province of Rio Negro, Argentina, in the mountainous part of the Patagonia, close to the Nahuel Huapi Lake and surrounded by the Nahuel Huapi National Park. This place is a touristic place for skiing, trekking and mountaineering. The city itself reminds the typical Swiss town and this is not casual, because this region has many European immigrants. This photo seems taken in a typical town in Switzerland, but it was taken in the main square of San Carlos de Bariloche. If you like to see wonderful landscapes, this is the place. You will find many spots very close to our concept of paradise. And the good thing is that this place offers its beauty at any time of the year. Patagonia: The end of the Earth

Patagonia is a large Andean region in the southernmost part of South America that covers parts of Chile and Argentina. Its name comes from the word "patagón" (in Portuguese big foot) used by Magellan to describe the native people of the region. They were tall people (over 5'11", 1.80 m) with big feet and this is possibly the reason why Magellan took the name. Due to its climate and location this region has preserved its ecosystem and we can still enjoy amazing sights and wildlife. Between the animals that can be seen, we find whales, rodents, birds, rheas and camelids like the guanaco's. One of the typical features of this area is the quantity and dimension of lakes of glacial origins. This is the reason why several European have chosen this place to settle because of its similarity to the Alpine region.
